Tonight I saw an old man at Starbucks. He had a golden bears cap and matching warm-up jacket. For an hour he sat in solitude, with his madeleine cookies and café americano. And alone I sat, with pen and paper in hand, wondering in awe of his story. An alumni. Proud father of two - one of them a CAL grad. No spouse? Why else would a man spend so much time in a patterned charcoal love seat for one... Maybe Sunday evening is designated Starbucks night. Before my curiosity built enough steam, the old man in the golden bears cap stood up and left. On his way out, he spoke softly to the barista and parted with a "see you next time."
